The Brewerton Firehouse buzzed with excitement as more than 40 attendees, including a friendly face from the NOPL Brewerton staff, gathered on a rain-soaked evening of September 12, 2023. It was more than just a community meeting; it was a promise of a vibrant future for our beloved town.

The Town of Cicero convened the gathering to unveil a tapestry of transformative projects that will redefine our town’s landscape. These initiatives include a brighter and safer streetscape overhaul on Route 11, a bridge modernization and replacement project, and the awe-inspiring Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), generously funded by a grant from the New York Department of State.

Also discussed at the meeting were projects eligible for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant opportunity. These projects include the transformation of Riverfront Park into a recreational paradise, a charming neighborhood of tiny homes nestled just across from the firehouse, a mixed-use project at the corner of Route 11 and Bennett Street, and a restful retreat in the form of a hotel in Hastings.

The feedback at the meeting was very practical, with residents delving into the practical nuances. From snow removal strategies to signage that informs and entices waterborne tourists, including the adventurous “great loopers,” from pristine bathrooms to play facilities for families—ideas flowed like the river that graces our town.

As you stroll into the NOPL Brewerton library before October 10th, you’ll be greeted by a display of information boards, each a window into the promise these projects hold. The boards, presented by state representatives and skilled consultants, will not just enlighten but spark your vision of the future.

We extend an open invitation to visit the library, where the blueprints of the future are displayed.
