With Hoopla there are no late fees and you never have to wait for the item you want to become available. Hoopla is available to anyone with a NOPL library card! All you need to get started is an internet connection and a digital device.

Please note: Each library card is limited to 6 check-outs per month (any mix of movies, music, ebooks, or audiobooks). The checkout counter resets on the first of the month. Please note that returning a title early does not give users additional borrows for that month.

Using Hoopla on your TV

Hoopla is compatible with all of the devices below. Click on a device for more information:

  • Hoopla currently supports Airplay on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation Apple TV devices.

  • Hoopla supports all Android TV devices.
How do I install the Android TV app?

To install the hoopla app on your Android TV, you will simply find and install the app in the Play store. From the home screen, navigate to the Play store. In the Play store, go to “search” and search for “hoopla.” Click to install the app.

The first time you load the app on your Android TV, you will be asked to go to https://www.hoopladigital.com/link and enter the 4-digit code provided. After entering the code, the hoopla app on your Android TV should be synced to your existing hoopla account. At this point, you will be able to browse and borrow Movie and TV titles from the hoopla library as well as browse and borrow from your “favorites” list. Remaining borrows for the month (determined by your library) will be shown in the app.

How do I sync up my hoopla account with my Android TV app?

1. Once the app is installed on your Android TV, select it from your apps. 
2. The app opens on our welcome screen. If you already have an account, click to open the next page. If you need an account and your local public library offers hoopla, click here to get started. Once you are signed up click to open the next page. 
3. At the top of the next screen a 4-digit code is displayed. On another device, log in to our website using a mobile or desktop browser, and visit https://www.hoopladigital.com/link
4. Enter the 4-digit code from your TV screen and in a few seconds you are up and running on the hoopla Android TV app. You can enjoy borrowing and watching movies and television episodes, as well as searching, browsing, and accessing your favorites.

What features does Android TV have?

We currently have the following features: 

*Browse, search, borrow, and stream movies and television. 
*Visit your favorites for access to saved content. 
*Toggle on Kids Mode to filter content for ages 13 and under. 

Support for audiobooks and music are coming soon.

How do I turn on closed captions on Android TV?

1. Start your video. 
2. Using your remote, press up on navigation to make the progress bar appear on the screen. 
3. Press up again to highlight the pause and CC buttons. 
4. Press left or right to highlight CC and press the select button. 
5. CC will have a blue tint when it is on.

How do I turn on Kids Mode on Android TV?

1. Using your remote, navigate to the blue side menu. 
2. Navigate down to settings. 
3. Select Kids Mode. 
4. Select Turn On. 

Kids Mode filters content for ages 13 and under.

How do I turn on closed captions on Apple TV?

1. Start your video. 
2. Using your remote, swipe down to access the info, subtitles, and audio information menu. 
3. Swipe left or right to select subtitles. 
4. Swipe left or right again to select English. 
5. Swipe up until the menu goes away and your subtitles will display on screen.

  • Hoopla currently supports casting from iOS and Android devices to the 1st and 2nd generation Chromecasts. 
    Support for Chromecast Audio and Chromecast Ultra are coming soon.

How do I install the Fire TV app?

On Fire TV, instead of browsing and installing apps directly on your TV screen, you can use the Amazon app store to “send” applications to your devices. To install the hoopla app, first search for “hoopla” in the Fire TV app store or go directly there by clicking here.

On this screen, select the Fire TV device on which you’d like to install the app and click “deliver”. 

In a few moments, you should see the hoopla app. Keep in mind, to find the app, you may have to navigate to end of the “Your Apps and Games” section and click “See All.” Once you find the app, you can press the option button to choose to move it higher on the list.

How do I add the Roku channel?

To add the hoopla channel to your Roku device, you will simply find and add the channel in the Channel Store. From the home screen, navigate to Streaming Channels. In Streaming Channels, go to “Search Channels” and search for “hoopla.” Click to add the channel.

The first time you load the channel on your Roku device, you will be asked to go to https://www.hoopladigital.com/link and enter the 4-digit code provided. After entering the code, the hoopla channel on your Roku device should be synced to your existing hoopla account. At this point, you will be able to play currently borrowed Movie and TV titles from the hoopla library. Remaining borrows for the month (determined by your library) will be shown in the app.

How do I sync up my hoopla account with my Roku channel?

1. Once the channel is added on your Roku device, select it from your channels. 
2. At the top of the welcome screen a 4-digit code is displayed. If you need an account and your local public library offers hoopla, click here to get started. Once you are signed up, log in to our website using a mobile or desktop browser, and visit https://www.hoopladigital.com/link
3. Enter the 4-digit code from your TV screen and in a few seconds you are up and running on the hoopla Roku channel. You can enjoy playing currently borrowed movies and television episodes.

What features does the Roku channel have?

Hoopla on Roku is limited to streaming currently borrowed movies and television at this time.

Support for browsing and borrowing is coming soon.

How do I turn on closed captions on the Roku channel?

1. Start your video. 
2. Using your remote, hit the option button (*). 
3. Use your up or down arrow until you highlight the closed captioning option. 
4. Use your left or right arrow until you highlight the always on option. 
5. Hit the OK button and your subtitles will display on screen.

Getting Started with Hoopla

  1. Ensure your library card was issued by the Northern Onondaga Public Library.
  2. Visit www.hoopladigital.com or download the hoopla app on your iOS or Android mobile device and click “Sign Up”. The hoopla app is free and can be found in the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, and the Amazon App Store.
  3. Agree to the hoopla Terms and Conditions of Use.
  4. Enter an email address and create a hoopla password.
  5. Use the pull down menu to select Northern Onondaga Public Library
  6. Enter your library card number and PIN.
  7. You can now browse or search titles.  To borrow a title, click on the title cover image and then click the Borrow button. Movies and TV titles can be borrowed for three (3) days. Music albums can be borrowed for seven (7) days. Audiobooks, ebooks and comics can be borrowed for 21 days.
  8. Your borrowed titles can be found under the My Titles tab for viewing and listening. Enjoy your selected titles! You are not able to stream hoopla on library computers, but you can stream hoopla on your personal laptop or device in the library.
