Creative teens at NOPL’s North Syracuse Branch have worked hard to create a magazine for children ages 3 and up. The teens began work on the publication in February and continued into May. They had the option to use service hours for the project, but many volunteered their time in exchange for the experience.

Sarah Heukrath, NOPL North Syracuse Branch’s Youth Services Librarian, ran the program. She noted that when the project started, the teens did a lot of research to learn how to make a magazine for this age group. Then the content creation began: writing stories, book reviews, and collecting artwork. Lastly, they worked on the layout and printing. Funds for running the group and printing the publication came from a Family Literacy Grant.

“I’m so excited for these creative teens!” says Miss Sarah, “The magazine looks so good! And the teens are already asking when we would be doing the next magazine!”

A limited supply of printed copies of the magazine are available at the North Syracuse Library, or you can view the digital edition.
