The Board of Trustees of the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL), with branches in Brewerton, Cicero and North Syracuse, is proud to announce a new policy that eliminates overdue fines for all Active Duty, Reserve and Veterans.
“The Northern Onondaga Public Library so appreciates the service and many freedoms our active duty military and veterans have afforded us. Allowing these brave men and women access to our collections without having to worry about accruing overdue fines is just a small way for us to say thank you,” said Amanda Travis, NOPL Director.
Eligible NOPL patrons can show their Military ID, Veteran ID, NYS driver’s license with Veteran designation, or Onondaga County Veteran’s FavorCard at any NOPL location to receive fine free status on their account. Qualified patrons will not be charged overdue fines on any items they check out. This includes books, movies, music, and much more. Overdue notices will still go out, and lost or damaged item charges will still apply as with all library materials.
This latest move is another step toward making NOPL more accessible to it’s community. Previous efforts made by NOPL include going fine-free for children and teens, and auto-renewal for NOPL-owned materials.
