OverDrive allows you to download mp3 audiobooks to the OverDrive app on your tablet or mobile device. I recommend connecting to WiFi before downloading audiobooks or e-books. You can also download using your phone’s 3G or 4G internet connection, but doing so will use data.

In this article, we’ll cover how to find audiobooks by either searching for a specific title or browsing the library’s collection, as well as how to download the audiobook to your device. To begin, sign in to your OverDrive account.

Searching for an Audiobook

  1. Click + Add a Title
  2. Click Search
  3. Type in your search terms – you can search by title, author, or keywords in the basic search box
    • If you’d like to perform an advanced search, click Advanced after clicking in the Search box
  4. Your results will appear, automatically sorted by relevance
    • You can change how titles are sorted by clicking Sorted by relevance and then choosing how you’d like to sort
    • You can also filter your results by clicking on Filters and choosing how you’d like to filter

Browsing for an Audiobook

  1. Click + Add Title
  2. Scroll down to view pre-selected categories to browse; click the category heading to view all items in that category

OR

  1. Click the hamburger menu in the upper right, then click Subjects
  2. Scroll until you find the subject you want, then click on it

Something to keep in mind when searching or browsing for titles is that both audiobooks and e-books will appear in results, so you’ll want to look below the cover image and title for a headphones icon and the word Audiobook. Available titles will also have an orange bar above the cover image that says Available. Titles marked as Wait List above the cover image aren’t available right now and will need to be placed on hold if you’d like to borrow them in the future.

Borrowing and Downloading an Audiobook

  1. Once you see the title you want, click on it
  2. Click the orange Borrow button; or click the orange Place a Hold button if the title is unavailable
  3. For available titles, after you click Borrow, you will have the option to borrow for 7, 14, or 21 days. Click 14 days to change this timeframe
  4. Click Borrow again
  5. Click Download MP3 audiobook
  6. The audiobook should begin downloading automatically. Once it is done downloading, you can click the cover in your Bookshelf to begin listening
    • Tip: access your Bookshelf by clicking the hamburger menu, then clicking Bookshelf
    • Tip: You can also see the progress of your audiobook download by clicking the hamburger menu and choosing Files.; click any individual book to see the progress of the download
