What is a Friend of the Library?

The Friends are a non-profit, charitable group formed to support the library. The Friends of Library are often involved in fundraising, advocacy, volunteering, public awareness campaigns, and literacy programs. Some examples of this are raising funds through ice cream socials and book & bake sales, purchasing special items not included in the library budget, assisting at children’s programs, finding individuals and groups to display artwork within the library, maintaining the exterior appearance of the libraries, and creating public support for the library.

How do I become a Friend of the Library?

Currently two branches within the NOPL system maintain Friends groups. All residents are invited to join and support their local public library. Read below for more information or pick up a handout at your local branch, and learn more by attending a Friend’s meeting.

Our Friends group was formed for the charitable purpose of supporting the Northern Onondaga Public Library at Brewerton, New York in educating the citizens of Brewerton and in the surrounding areas regarding the benefits and programs of the library and assisting in the funding of those programs.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and patronized our events in this past year. We had great success with the annual book sale in June, the book table at the Cicero Farmer’s Market throughout the summer, numerous basket drawings during the year, and the NOPL 20th Anniversary Celebration. Events such as this could not
happen without everyone’s help.
Friends of NOPL at Brewerton are continually accepting new members. If you would like to join, please stop by the library to leave your name and contact information at the circulation desk and we will get in touch with you or please come to our next meeting in the community room at the NOPL at Brewerton on Thursday January 14, 2016 at 6:30pm.  We look forward to seeing a lot of new faces in the new year!
