What is Books on Wheels?

Books on Wheels is a service provided by NOPL at North Syracuse to nearby residents who are unable to visit the library due to physical disability or illness.

What library materials are available?

Books (regular or large print), audiobooks, DVDs and music can be requested. Items with hold requests and new items with shorter loan periods are not included in deliveries. Additional items are selected by library staff to supplement requests.  Items are loaned for one-month periods.

When are books delivered?

Deliveries are made by volunteers. When the one-month loan period is ending, library staff prepares a new delivery. A volunteer then calls to arrange a time to bring the new delivery and pick up the previous month’s loans.

How do I sign up?

The Books on Wheels service is currently provided at NOPL at North Syracuse only. Anyone living in the North Syracuse area who would like to participate in the program should give them a call. If you are a resident of the Brewerton or Cicero areas, please contact your nearest NOPL branch to express interest in the program and learn when it might be available in your area.

Can I be a volunteer for the Books on Wheels program?

Yes! Books on Wheels requires many volunteers to help bring library materials to those who cannot leave their homes. Although the program is only available at NOPL at North Syracuse at the present time, the Brewerton and Cicero loactions will need volunteers as interest in this service continues to grow. Please contact your nearest NOPL branch.
