10th Annual Cicero Photography Contest: NOPL @ Cicero

The Winners are in!

The 10th annual Cicero Photo Contest announces a tie for first place! The first place award will be shared by Jessica Moran “Lace Grace” and Stephanie Reynolds “Too Little Time”.

Overall People’s Choice Award goes to “Morning Mist” by Emily Neuner

The Honorable Mention People’s Choice awards were:

Voting in July: Photo Contest

During the month of July, take part in the “People’s Choice Contest” and vote for your favorites. Our judges will also be casting their vote for the 1st place and 2nd place prizes. The winners will be announced on August 1st!

People’s Choice Contest: Stop in between July 1st and July 31st and vote for your favorites. One vote per person; ballot slips are available at the NOPL @ Cicero Library.


  • Top prize: $75 (juried)
  • 2nd prize: $50 (juried)
  • People’s Choice: $25 (votes cast by patrons during the month of July)

About the Contest: This annual contest is open to all amateur photographers. Photo submissions accepted between May 1st and June 14, 2014. All non-professional photographers are eligible. A professional photographer is someone who receives monetary compensation for his or her photographic work.

  •  Up to 2 photos/person
  • Any size up to 8.5″ x 12″
  • Photos must be unframed and unmounted
  • No entry fee is required
  • Judging is blind: no names should appear anywhere on the photos

Photographic Consent (view pdf)
Each recognizable person in each photograph must give written photographic consent. Photo Consent Forms are available at the library, but any written permission will do. Photos containing recognizable faces without consent forms will not be displayed, and so will not be eligible for judging.

Declaration of Authenticity (view pdf)
Each photographer must sign a statement claiming intellectual property rights of all work submitted.


  • Photographs will be on display at NOPL @ Cicero during July 2014.
  • Winners will be announced on August 1, 2014.
  • All photographs not claimed by August 31, 2014 will become the property of the Northern Onondaga Public Library
  • Photos will be displayed using bull clips, which leave an impression.

The Northern Onondaga Public Library assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to an entry.

1st Place  ­– Linda McLellan (for photo #83, two zebras)

Photo was taken at the Buffalo Zoo and edited using a computer program. Linda is a nurse who loves photography. She has a bumpersticker on her car which says “When I grow up I want to be a photographer!”

2nd Place –  Stephen Brown (for photo #5, industrial landscape)
Stephen is a business major at OCC. He took the photo one day while walking around with friends.

People’s Choice  – Anthony Tulowiecki (for photo #2, monarch butterfly)
Anthony took this during a visit to Houghton College. He is a former programmer who has always loved photography.
