What is a Friend of the Library?

The Friends are a non-profit, charitable group formed to support the library. The Friends of Library are often involved in fundraising, advocacy, volunteering, public awareness campaigns, and literacy programs. Some examples of this are raising funds through ice cream socials and book & bake sales, purchasing special items not included in the library budget, assisting at children’s programs, finding individuals and groups to display artwork within the library, maintaining the exterior appearance of the libraries, and creating public support for the library.

How do I become a Friend of the Library?

Currently two branches within the NOPL system maintain Friends groups. All residents are invited to join and support their local public library. Read below for more information or pick up a handout at your local branch, and learn more by attending a Friends’ meeting.
