In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the NOPL libraries of Cicero, North Syracuse and Brewerton will be offering a Food for Fines exchange. NOPL’s Food for Fines will start on February 1 and continue to February 14, 2015. For each eligible food item you bring to the library, we will waive $1 in fines. The NOPL libraries will waive up to $10 in overdue fines, but if you want to donate more, we will happily accept.
Donations will go to food pantries at the United Methodist Church of Brewerton, St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse, and the Sacred Heart Church in Cicero.
Here are the items we will be accepting: coffee, tea, juice, canned or dried fruits, pudding mixes, canned vegetables, soups and stews, cake, brownie, muffin mixes, canned meats, hash, chili, crackers, pork and beans, tuna, pasta, rice, grains, cereals and oatmeal, dried beans/legumes, chips, pretzels, popcorn, macaroni & cheese, pop-tarts, granola bars, peanut butter & jelly/jam, canned & dry soups, rice and rice dishes, cereals & oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup, pet food, diapers, baby food and toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant or toothpaste.
There are a few restrictions: Only cans or nonperishable items. No glass containers. Nothing past the expiration date, damaged, dented, rusted, or opened will be accepted. Only fines will be waived, not charges for lost or damaged materials.
Make a meaningful difference in our community with your food donations, and NOPL will give you the added benefit of reducing your library fines.
